7 layers' participation in HSCSD launch phase
Duesseldorf, 12
November 1999
The new millennium for
higher mobile data rates has already been launched. Internet/WAP
surfing, emailing and data file exchanges will be supported now by
using the new GSM Phase 2+ feature HSCSD, which will significantly
increase data rates.
GSM operators such as
E-Plus (Germany), Orange (UK), Telia (Sweden) and Telenor (Norway)
have started their new services. First terminal card phones will be
provided by Nokia.
7 layers currently
supports the accredited test laboratory TA Center (Salo, Finland) to
evaluate Nokia HSCSD card phones. 'For HSCSD the GSM and test
equipment experts of 7 layers are involved in standardization, test
scenario developments, validation and test session executions for
the benefit of Nokia products' said Mr. Ari Tuomaala, who is
globally responsible for type approvals and official test
laboratories of Nokia Mobile Phones.
It is very important
to know that no mobile service can work if terminals do not comply
satisfactorily with the technical standard. GSM operators also have
to ensure within their internal quality procedures, that terminal
products especially those with new features work correctly from the
beginning.
'Our customers,
especially the business customers who are most likely to use HSCSD,
expect our services and that includes the (card) phones we are
selling' - to function properly, said Mr. Gerdemann, who is
responsible at E-Plus for the internal quality ensurance test
process. 'We trust in the accredited test services of 7 layers and
we are quite lucky to have this GSM expert team in our local
neighbourhood.'
'In the UK we have a
very strong competition and it is vital for us to offer HSCSD
services', stated Mr. David Nelson, Type Approval Manager at Orange.
'We have known the experts who are working now at 7 layers for many
years. They guarantee top quality services in terminal testing and
other related services. We are looking forward to their services in
HSCSD, SIM Application Toolkit and GPRS.'
